Coach Stan Brown

Basketball, Volleyball & Multi-Sport Athlete Development Specialist

Coach Stan Brown brings a rare combination of elite playing experience, international competition, and multi-sport coaching expertise to BreakAway Speed. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Stan attended Whitney M. Young Magnet High School — one of the nation’s most recognized schools for both academic and athletic excellence. During his senior year, he helped lead his team to a Class 4A State Championship in basketball, marking the beginning of a standout athletic career.

Stan earned a full athletic scholarship to Lamar University, where he competed in NCAA Division I basketball while earning his bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication. During his time at Lamar, he played a key role in the team’s success, winning the Southland Conference Championship and competing in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

After graduating, Stan continued his basketball journey professionally, playing six years overseas in countries including Mexico, Slovakia, Germany, Japan, Sweden, and Denmark. His international experience exposed him to diverse coaching styles, advanced training systems, and unique approaches to athlete development.

After retiring from professional basketball, Stan obtained his teaching certification and began shaping young athletes as a high school coach and educator at YES Prep Public Schools. He currently coaches Girls Varsity Volleyball, Boys Varsity Basketball, and serves as Assistant Middle School Soccer Coach — showcasing his versatility and passion for multi-sport athlete development.

Stan has also earned a Master of Science in Human Resource Management, strengthening his leadership, communication, and mentorship skills — all of which directly enhance his coaching approach.

At BreakAway Speed, Stan specializes in developing fundamental and advanced skills in both basketball and volleyball. His coaching is structured, high-energy, and focused on building not only athletic performance but also confidence, discipline, and strong character.
