Coach Kelvin Furlough

Track, Sprint Mechanics & Speed Development Specialist

Kelvin Furlough is a decorated sprinter, accomplished coach, and passionate mentor who brings elite sprinting expertise to BreakAway Speed. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Kelvin graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School as one of the most dominant sprinters in the state. He won district titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, and became the 4A state champion in the 400-meter dash, breaking the school record in the process — a historic performance that still stands as a highlight of his early career.

In addition to track, Kelvin played cornerback in high school, adding to his athletic versatility and understanding of speed in multi-sport contexts.

Kelvin earned a full scholarship to the University of Houston, where he continued to excel on one of the nation’s strongest track programs. As a key member of the men’s 4x400 relay team, he helped break the UH school record in the 4x400 relay and earned major victories at the 2011 Conference USA Championships, winning both the 200m and 400m titles. His performance earned him recognition on the national stage, where he became a 2x Second Team All-American.

Kelvin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health, giving him a strong academic foundation in anatomy, movement, and athletic performance.

After his collegiate career, Kelvin transitioned into coaching, spending four years as the head track coach at YES Prep Bay Oaks. During his time there, he developed young athletes into confident, high-performing sprinters and led the girls’ team to a state championship in the 4x100 relay. His ability to mentor athletes — physically and mentally — reflects his dedication to the sport and his commitment to creating the next generation of champions.

At BreakAway Speed, Kelvin specializes in sprint mechanics, acceleration, max-velocity training, race strategy, and multi-sport speed development. His coaching style is grounded in experience, detail, and discipline, helping athletes understand how to run efficiently, powerfully, and confidently.
